ok I put a new TV cable on my 86 iroc z28 5.0 from GM I cant get the right adjustmnet shifts are wayyyyy to long like (prolong shift) not sure how to explain it. but if i disconnect it, it will shift through the gears just fine. I know the TV cable does more then shift points also does line pressures among other things. i read all kinds of forums about adjusting but just cant get it. any help here guys im out of ideas.

i have always pulled the throttle all the way open and pulled the cable all the way open and set it up with them both fully extended.

this is how i read to do it,tell me if its what your talking about.. held throttle open pushed tv all the way towards firewall then released throttle & then opened throttle all the way again the cable kind of self adjusts.
when you say open the cable all the way is that towards firewall or towards the front of the car? thanks tim.

What he said...
There is a little pushbutton on the bracket/TV cable assembly where it mounts to the carb or throttle body. Hold this button and push the cable back the opposite direction of throttle travel. Then floor the throttle and the cable should be pulled forward and lock into the correct position.

that is how i did it but its still not right. i tried it about 10 times just how you guys are saying to. if i disconnect the cable fromthe throttle body it shifts good. so i know its got to be this cable.

if the tb cable aint hooked up,the trans shouldnt shift at all!

well the throttle valve cable controls more then the shift points it also controls the line pressures which is how it controls the shifting to but it does and will shift without the tv cable hooked up I read it under transmissioncenter.net in the 700R4 transmission part.
might just have to take it to a tranns shop and have them adjust it acording to a line pressure gauge

Something is not right with either your cable or your TV setup. (or maybe your trans is toast)
Do the pressure gauge setup then. Get a pressure gauge that reads up to around 300-400psi and connect it to the port on your trans. Position the cable so you get an immediate pressure spike as soon as you move the throttle.

I just set the cable back to where it will pull and then stomp on the throttle cable. That also helps because after you do it go pull the throttle body open (or carb) and if it clicks again you aren't getting full travel of the pedal.

i am going to put it on the ramps and check to make sure its running the right direction with nothing in the way. the old one did run behind the trans dip stick bracket and this one does not only about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch different maybe thats it.
