Long story short... OOPS! lol

I was sold a 4r70e (was told it was a 4r70w) and found out after getting it installed that it has a 24 pulse output shaft speed sensor and the stock 4r70w that went bad had a 6 pulse. So now I am here banging my head off my desk trying to figure out how to get this signal to work correctly. Everything works with the OSS unplugged (shift timing is WAY off and a little on the hard side) but if I plug it in the transmission shifts to 4th at 15mph and is not drivable.

Has anyone run into this issue before? I spoke to Dallas Mustang about the speedcal and was told it would work but with out a speedometer running off the same sensor it would be almost impossible to get setup correctly. The guy I spoke to on the phone is doing some research and is going to get back to me. Or he ran screaming down the street!

I also called SCT about having an option for a tune but I am waiting to hear back from them. (This option would require a tuner, 07 OSS sensor to match the transmission and also a connector to wire into the 98 harness.)

My next option is to burn the mother down!!

SCT called me back and they need the strategy off the trucks computer before I can get a definite answer. The guy I spoke to said it was possible so I am going to get back to them with the info. I explained that this was not the VSS sensor but he assured me "It’s in there". LOL

I am going to hold off on the gas and matches for a little while. :flame:

It will be a shame to buy a X3 just for this. :bored:

I spoke to SCT today after being on hold for over 30 mins. The answer is YES the OSS can be changed from the default 6 pusle to the now correct 24. (The setting maxes out at 32) So now I either need an X3 or use this flip chip I have sitting around here and then get a "custom" tune for it. I am not sure how "custom" a tune with a setting changed to 24 and having the rear o2s turned off is or how much it will set me back.

Don or Terry could do it no problem I am sure.

We got the old girl fixed! :cheer2: I took her out for the test drive and had my matches and gas in the back. j/k Ok I was just crossing my fingers that the tune would work and it shifted so smooth I almost missed it.

If anyone wants to have fun with a friend. Just slide under their truck and disconnect that OSS sensor. The next person that pisses me off in the parking lot might have this issue. LOL
