I am saving up to install my nitrous over the winter, and was thinking about switching up my intakes. Im considering swapping out my trick flow R for a efi converted carbed style intake with elbow to the tb, I know it will hurt my tq some , but would this be a more nitrous friendly intake?

keep in mind you will need a retune to do that, the carbed intakes are pretty hard to make idle smooth.

I wont be redoing it until I have the money for nitrous, so thats not a problem

You basically have a weekend cruiser that see more street time and minimal track time. I know you want to spray your car but its still not an all out nitrous motor. How often are you actually gonna spray the car? That intake setup is more for a 7000-8500 rpm range. JMO. If you do go with it you better be spraying a minimum of 250 shot. Just trying to help you out.

And with a 250 shot it will be saying goodbye to that stock block very shortly as well.

I'd say keep the intake you have, powdercoat it black, put the nitrous on and enjoy it. You don't want to end up with a car that is a pain to drive around on the streets.

I want to know when it will be making it's track debut????

My biggest problem is the clearance issues, I wouldn't mind keeping the intake, its just too big

Im not a huge fan of the black intake manifolds on black cars

Im honestly not trying to risk breaking the tranny and rear end just yet

If it bolts on and the hood closes... what other issues are there? I thought you had a rather large cowl hood. Nitrous doesn't care what the motor combo is it will make power. Its the wonder drug for cars. Everyone has a nitrous motor if you retard the timing and add fuel. We all want the elbow setup because it does look cool and saves room and if I really didnt believe it would hurt your combo it would already been on mine. Im not sure what clearance issues you are having but if it out weighs driveability and HP then go for it. Don't be surprised if it only puts down 330/330 on the dyno.

You could always go with the silver vein color I did on my power pipe too. If you don't like the size of the intake, would the TFS box R upper work? You can keep mostly all the same parts like the intake pipe and everything, but you will gain VC clearance. The nitrous would probably make up for the loss of low end by going to a box style as well.

my clearance issues are on the back of the hood, the portion of the upper intake that is towards the rear of the car is rubbing on the underneath of the hood, and it also is sitting on the valve cover on the driver side.

my thought was, and correct me if I wrong, even if I lost some hp without the nitrous, that would enable me to run a lil bigger of a shot without pushing the limits of the block. now with that said I understand that anything bigger than a 150 is probably out of the question, but I was only planning on running a 100 shot with the current intake setup, so if I lost a few ponies with a different setup, I could up that to a 125 or 150 shot to make up the difference

I think what tim was trying to say is that type of intake is more difficult to tune and could result in losing driveability. That's just how I interpreted his post though, I really don't have any personal experience with those intakes.

I'll be honest with ya dan, driveability went out the window when I picked the cam and big heads that ended up on the car. I just figure if swapping the intakes enables me to run nitrous and put closer to 450-500 hp to the wheels I would do it

Im trying to help you out, but I feel like I have no idea what your ultimate goals is for your car. Is it a weekend cruiser, weekly TNT racer trying to go as fast as possible, or do you just want a big dyno number to post on the forums? How often and when do you plan on spraying this car? The N61 should drive fine I have been and still am running that cam and mine drives great. Its the combo in general. I say there is only one way to find out... go for it.

Well I look at it this way. No one really knows how your car will respond to the carb style intake. Logically, I would say you will lose all around, driveablity, HP and TQ. So if it worth it to you then I would say go for it. You can say you'll just spray it with more nitrous, in that case you could have kept the stock engine saved yourself some money and sprayed it with a 250 shot to reach your HP goal.

Just dont make any decisions to fast, drive the car and think about it for a little while. Im willing to bet though, if you dont like the TFR intake you'll hate the carb style except when you open the hood.

I dont really dis like the intake, it was just more the fact I was trying to run the nitrous plate, I may just run a fogger nozzel and call it a day

honestly you should stick with the intake you have dude your heads or huge for a reason when you hit that thing with 100 shot it will fill like a diffrent animal. just my opinion.
