Hey all, we are looking for flash light drag feedback from everyone,
-what do you think is good about it?
-what do you think is bad?
-what do you think needs to be changed?

thanks and all suggestions are welcome!!

Maybe it was my imagination, but it seemed like they were letting the singles lane run far more than the grudge lanes. More than one person I talked to made the comment that they saw the same car run twice in the singles lane while they sat in the staging lane.

They need to do something with the PA system....couldn't hear anything in the pits. It was hard to tell who won the races....either fix the PA and announce each winner, or implement a better win light that can be seen from a distance.

Other than that....I liked it just fine. I did like the idea that they let people enter the Street Contender race instead of picking the cars themselves. Makes it fair for everyone.

I totally luv'em and have ssssoooooo much fun at them! I think instead of takin bunches from each lane. They should go thru the lanes and take pairs, say take two from lane one then two from lane two n so on thru the lanes. Just keep rotating them, that way they flow better and aren't bunchin up at the backs of'em. And a brighter or bigger win lose light would be nice too.

I think this time went a little better than the first one...but that may be because I got off my butt and actually raced this time too.

I will agree on the PA system. It is pretty impossible to hear anything down there.

When it comes to the lanes, and the fact that the singles got to run a lot more, I'm not to sure about that. If people got to run more it's because that line staid the shortest. I staid mostly in that line (because no one wanted to run against rice I guess) and I can tell you that I sat there a good bit too. The problem I saw was that the lane beside the singles lane was ALWAYS the longest and if you got stuck there you were going to wait a while. What I noticed was that the far lane would split into 2 lanes when you got up around the turn. Thus making the wait a LOT shorter for those who were smart enough to constantly get in that line.

I don't know what to even suggest to fix it either. The problem I see with running a set from each lane is the fact that it would keep all the cars running and constantly moving. That wouldn't work for my car because I can't keep my car running and it CONSTANTLY stalls, so I'd be too upset with my car by the time I got to the line to even think about racing. You also have guys running boosted, and decently modified cars, that want to keep their cars cool, that wont happen if you're asking them to stay running the whole time their in the lanes.

Anyways, I see the problems as very minor and they surely weren't enough to ruin my day.

I've had a blast at both of the events and can't wait for the 11th to get here

I would love to see the spectators section be moved closer to the track. It seems like when im watching im a mile away.

The lights that indicate who won could be a little bigger or brighter but thats just minor because 90 percent of the races you can see who won

as for the stageing lanes.......... i think the june way was alot better then the way they were in may. They were takeing 7-8 races from each lane then moveing to the next lane. This knda gave you an idea of when you could shut your car off and let it cool. I would love to see the lanes move faster but let face it , there are usually 200 cars there raceing!!! how fast do you want it to go. Plus i ran 9 times in may and 6 times in june. When is the last time you went to prp on tnt and got that many runs.

I think race cars at the end of the strip instead of the beginning would allow cars to pit quickly after a run and keep the heat to a min. I would also like an all motor class(no turbo, blower, or nitrous). It is great to have a sponser that cares, Thanx Tim for everything.

i hear yah, we are working on it... as far as people getting closer we cant , we have to keep people 150 feet away from the racing... its one of the big laws we gotta follow to make this happen.

First of all, a big thanks to Rodeheavers and the other sponsors who help make this happen!

I don't think the 'singles' lane ran any more than the others, but that was just my perspective (from the singles lane). It was certainly a lot less disorganized in the staging lanes this time around.

The one thing I saw working well was a couple officials keeping the lanes close to even. At times the singles lane was a lot longer and we were paired a couple times and moved into one of the other lanes. But then that just sort of went away as the day drug on?

I wonder how much a FM transmitter setup costs? Something like they used to have at drive-ins and still occasionally at different tracks. That would help the PA system problem a bunch?

The street contenders runoff was cool. But it seemed a lot of peeps disappeared after the bike crashed and that threw a sprag into the matchups.

I'm impressed how well everything went overall given the huge turnout and the few that had to actually run the event. :thumb:

Tons of spectators, probably the most I raced in front of. Well other than the last time their! But a big thanx thou to Tim and the Rodeheaver's crew, for everything too!

Yeah, what happened to you? Did one of your scheduled races leave early or chicken out or something?

You ended up out there in the lanes all by yourself????

Right after the guy on the bike wiped out, there was supposed to be a Mach 1 matched up with me. There wasn't one in the lanes when I pulled up and none came to the lanes, so I suspect they left after the bike incident.

I think a lot of people pulled out after that as it put everything behind schedule and they likely had places to go. That's the only reason I figure I made it to the final round! LOL!

I dont think i was suppose to race you, I beat a GTO in the first round then lost to the red and black lingenfelter vette. I do believe i was the only mach 1 in the street contenders

Perhaps, they were a bit confused at the tent. First it was a convertible mustang, then they said a Mach 1.

Either way, there were neither. They had to radio in from the staging lanes to find out who was left.

How do they choose the cars for the runoff at the end? Is it just the people that looked the fastest in the grudge match part?

the only car ive ever beaten in the flashlight drags was a v6 mustang :boxing:

my understanding is......you just go and tell them you want to compete in the street contender and they pair you up from there ,and may the best car win!!

That's the way I understood it as well. I had the pit crew sign me up and when they announced it was beginning, and I simply stopped the car at the tent on the return road and they told which car I was paired with.

Go to the lanes and find your opponent and line 'em up! :biggrin1:

Just got this from Mike.

"Just an FYI.
staging lanes -the way it is designed is as follows, how it happens might be something else. But, we'll talk about it.

fill each lane
start from lane one (singles) lane close it, and run approx 10 races=20 cars
move to the next lane and repeat the same process (the key here to cap or close the lane that is being run

then once all lanes have run once start back at the end again
We need to communicate that to the drivers at the meeting
I will print something that we will give to late arrivals

Cars race every 30 seconds Approximately it should take 5 minutes to drain one lane of 20 cars. This is designed to let people turn their cars off and save heat and gas. We must remember that drag racing may contribute to local global warming...naaaah!

We will tweak it again, maybe.

PA system we will address this maybe increase the distance between speakers, or at least move the Pit speaker in front of the Pits. We plan to move the speakers back to the other side of the return lane. People were turning them off, or pointing them toward the track away form the people. Because being close to the speaker it is too loud.
We do use a transmitter. it might be to low of a frequency to reach that far.

Hersch did a radio spot on WLSW 103.9 they are big fans of the race, and will plug it hard. It is an oldie station. many of our racers are oldies too."

I enjoy going to the races very much! I agree there need to be something done with the win light. It's very hard to see which side comes on. My biggest thing is I wish there were more. I'm not able to go to the one on the 11th and that's it until oct. There's 2 months with nothing, can't they add a couple dates? I don't race but I'll be having withdrawl! lol!!

I think they could probably put a shade on the win light and help out a bunch. It's more for the spectators anyways since in most of the races, it's fairly evident to the drivers who won or lost.

Well, at least in my races it was. :D

I was only watching today as last time I tried to run street tires at Waynesburg I lost to 14 second cars...

I missed the last event so I don't know how much of an improvement it was over the staging lane cluster f that was the first event but things seemed to run smooth, a lot more people filling out the staging lanes, hopefully more paying attention and getting into the proper lanes when they dont have someone to run.

I liked street contender being open to whoever wants to run it and not just a select 8.

I agree from a spectators standpoint the win lights are inadequate (I have also never noticed them when racing).

Back at Zeli there was an FM Transmitter that we were able to tune in to 88.5 or whatever and hear the PA, can we get something like that going at Waynesburg?

I love the races and have participated for the last 3 years. Only thing that I didn't like was the fact I have to travel 1 3/4hrs to get there. I live in Northern Butler County and loved when the races were up this way... Zelienople was the best and always had a great turn out. The races at Beaver Run are nice as well...Wish there were more there 2...I have to agree with the pa system and the win lights as well....
