So this seems the proper place to ask. I'm looking to put a turbo on my rx7. Now i don't have much money so i've been shopping on ebay. yes i said it. ebay.
I found a universal single turbo kit for $550. And I found my ever elusive turbo manifold for $108. I figured pick up the few other things i would need and put it all together. Now I know I shouldn't trust ebay so i was going to get a turbo from garrett or greedy to replace the one in the ebay kit. Any thoughts?

most people would tell u that in the end it will cost you more in the end to replace the cheap parts, but who knows

buy it once, and buy it right
cheap kits are cheap for a reason
like everything in life, you get what you pay for
If you don't have the money now then wait until you do have the money

yeah man and not to sound like an $$$ but i doubt the kit comes with things such as injectors fuel pump, and the other miscellaneous things that go along with adding forced induction. and i am not tryin to sound like an $$$ but its just kinda the truth. doing something like that isnt just change manifolds, run some piping, and call it a day yanno? i would buy it right and spend the money knowing you got everything right in the end. ha a famous quote from mister rodeheaver himself, "when you want to do something, just forget about the money cuz."

I am a turbo guy, but I'm on a budget too. I still wont buy anything "important" to my engine from ebay, unless it is a name brand that i trust, from a seller i trust. It boggles my mind that people will buy a knock off fuel pump for 50 bucks and risk running lean when a regular walboro 255HP pump is only like 100 shipped.
Save your money, do it once, do it right, and it will last.

i agree wit all the other guys. If you go one more summer without a turbo and save the money for the right set up it will save you alot of headaches in the long run.
it sounds like you'll end up paying $550 for the pipe if you replace the turbo that comes with it. I would try to piece together used good stuff instead of buying new junk.

NO!!!!!! Dont even think about it for that price. Im sure the kit comes with a turbo that will last 200 miles and a intercooler that can hold 150hp and piping the size of a sharpie your going to need a lot more than you think. If you go cheap you will end up selling the ebay stuff and spendin money on somthing else. Im in the process of putting a turbo on my car. I know how it goes. I tried to cheap out on stuff and ended up holding me back and spending more money. you cheap out on somthing I promise you... YOU WILL GET SCREWED!
just because you have a "greddy" ( or other big name brand turbo) doesnt mean youll have a good kit. I have seen maybe people but turbos on and run like shiit and only able to boost 5psi because they cheaped out on it.
Take that $700 you were going to spend and save a few more and build up your head or bottom end.

im just going to upgrade the aspiration. Anyone know how to get around a unnecessarily large mass air sensor. The one in my rx7 looks like a jet turbine.

so guys i figured it out. Its going to take a long time and its going to be a pain but completely worth it. I was looking around and found where i can get a brand new turbo 13B rotary engine with a machined wall from 2 to 3mm (and some other nifty things) for about 4 grand.
Should be fun.
