View Full Version : will drag shocks help me
I have almost stock suspension, short ta and fc's. If I go with a 90/10 shock upfront and 50/50 in the rear will I get a better launch. right now if I let the car flash at the line to launch I can get it to pull one wheel off the ground.

The best 60ft I got was 1.58 on the et streets , I have been thinking of going back to a slick because the et streets are almost worn out. I'm starting to spin alil off the line when I flash the car instead of setting the rpm then launchin.

It Would help with weight transfer which should promote traction and a harder launch.

yep, they help transfer the wieght, i would think about a Spoon set up for the rear. And watch the 90/10 struts for daily driving, they arenet forgiving when slowing down on a bumpy road or cornering.
I had a pic posted to show how the car launches, but its off the thread. I know about the better weight transfer and traction but I don't know if everyone else can see the pic or not but it seems like the car has the weight transfer down. the front end is fully extended and the rear is down. I was more wonder from the pic if it would be worth the price of qa1's for the car or not.
I had the car for 5 years now and only put around 18,000 miles on it. I don't drive much on the street, the most street miles on the new motor now are about 30miles. I dont really care about the ride of the camaro, I have caddy for a beater. What do you run on the front of your stangs Rodeheaver? I'm looking for it to launch and instead of leaning to one side when it pulls a wheel I'd like it to pull them both up. The new motor I'm running has the torque to lift them its just right now the et streets aren't helping.
Does anyone run a drag bag in the rear? I've heard acoulpe people talk about them but never really looked into them.

I ran 90/10's in the front and 50/50's in the rear with drag springs in the front. Granted I drove the mustang a lot on the street and it didn't corner very well lol. It did make the car launch straight every time and I loved my ET streets. Granted she was only a 11.90's car.
I liked the et streets when I was stock, my new set-up kinda wearing them out quick. I had a set of slicks last season, but blew one on a nitrous launch.

Red, I can't think right now... what are ta's and fc's?
I am running 90/10 on the front, 50-50 on the back, and it's worked well for me. If you're just cruising, not pounding, you won't feel much of a difference on the street once you get used to it.
Tim mentioned the Spohn anti roll bar... I've been considering one for my car. Spohn has a very good reputation for their parts. My friend's Monte Carlo has Spohn parts on it, and it launches nice and straight. The drag bag/air bag is a cheaper way to go, and most times you can get away with just one in the pass side rear coil, and start around 15psi. Balaska can throw in some thoughts on that as well, he ran one.
For the launch, do what gives you consistent 60' times and traction, whether that's flashing the converter, or stalling it up.

Yeah I definitely know how to twist a car and pull one wheel. I fought that issue for years. The correct and best way to fix it is to install an Anti-roll bar. Youll never fix the problem with shocks especially if you start making even more power. You might be able to band aid the problem with an air bag which is the cheapest route. I have tried it all and the only thing that worked was the anti roll bar but my car is leaving a little harder than yours.
ta = torque arm and fc's = frame connectors. I have a stock anti-roll bar on the rear but the spohn pro-series drag bar makes my stock one look like a pencil. yeah your car leaves nice balaska, I'm gonna have to order the spohn bar to fix the problem.
I think the torque arm, frame connectors and th400 trans crossmember I'm running are ither spohn or bmr. I just don't like pulling that one wheel, I would rather it just stay on the ground or lift them both even if it's just an inch off the ground instead of lifting one wheel.

Red I didnt get a chance to stop and see you Saturday but I did watch you run and was pulling for you. The car looks great. Just keep on working on improving yourself and you'll get those wins. It took me half the season to get my first round win my first year in street. Im still working on getting better, its a continuous process.

im gonna be the dummy to ask, can someone explain what an anti roll bar is??
Thank you Mike, I seen you going to the lanes in the stang and I waved at you and yelled yo balaska when I was on my cart going to get some gas but I know you didn't hear me cause the exhaust and the other car running. I was on that green golf cart or the sliver one painted like my car. I forget which cart I was on but we passed each other and was like 5 feet apart. I know I went pass your trailer four or five times but you werent at the trailer.
I may not have it fully right but i will give it a try to explain, a anti roll bar limites the body from rolling tomuch from side to side and to keep the body of the car and tires planted on the ground. like driving a car from the 60's 70's when going into a hard left turn the body would tend to move toward the right side of the car like it was jacked up on the left side. the anti roll bar would keep the car level in the corner and able to handle harder turns and better traction because it keeps the front or rear planted as to were you have a roll bar placed.

Anti-roll bar = sway bar.
For an IRS car, a heavier sway bar and Koni adjustable shocks work well. My car used to 'squat' big time - now with the Konis set to stiff, delrin bushings in the control arms and a 1-1/4 Addco sway bar, the rear hardly moves at launch.

The anti-roll bar that Im talking about isnt the same as a factory sway bar. although they are meant to do the same thing. These ones work 100X better and are fully adjustable. They weld in between the frame rails and bolt to the rearend housing.
