My 2002 F-150 def needs a tune up as im getting 9-10mpg.. I am going to be doing a full tune up here in the next few weeks.. But i am kinda weary with changing the plugs on this(it def needs it) with only the 4 thread hole as to hearing so many horror stories as them stripping out and so on and so forth. I called the Ford dealership and they said that if that would happen when THEY do it i am still responsible for the cost to fix it if anything goes wrong, which in my opinon is total BS, so i might as well just do it myself... Does anyone have any tips so none of the stripping of the threads happen? I just dont have the time to fix it if anything goes wrong due to my busy work scheldule so any help is much appreciated

Also im just getting motocraft plugs and plug wires or should i upgrade to something else? The only thing the truck has is a drop in k&n.

If you are worried about it, take all the coil packs out and spray a little pb blaster in each hole then let it sit over night... I have changed a mountain of spark plugs in the 96+ trucks with no problems.

What I can't figure out is:

Why are you spending the money, time, effort, and risk of a stripped plug thread on your truck since you're very shortly getting a TBSS?

Cause before i sell it to someone i want to make sure that its in good working order and by me doing this A. It will let me look more for the TB ss that i want and not be in a hurry B. Will put my mind at ease that the truck is in perfect running order C. Im not 100% sure i want to get rid of it just yet.

Since its paid off it will cost me no money to keep it and use it when i would need it, and probably not going to get too much out of it on trade in so im still debating whether i am going to trade it/sell it/keep it

Also isnt the trick with aluminum heads to have them warm when doing plugs? I did a tune up in a 5.4 f250 and it wasnt a lot of fun so much garbage in the way. Motor was half way back under the windshield sucked balls. Course, once I have the o-rings and studs put in my cummins I have to retorque them every now and then, what fun that will be lol.

I was always told to do them cold. I know I've seen the torque specs say so.

Was also told a good idea to change the front O2 sensors, Injector cleaner on the next fill up i do, clean the MAF and the Throttle body so i am going to add these to the list and just make a day out of it..

Anything else i should add?
