We have some old iron in the shop! Its a solid, fairly clean 69 fairlane cobra it has the original 428 cobra jet engine in it at the moment. We pulled it out and are in the process of going through it. We will post up progress as we proceed.

I know a guy who has a 69 mach 1 428 cobra jet car sitting on a rot. and the motor sitting on a stand as well. Been there for years. I'll have to start bugging him to sell it to me lol.

Its hard to believe how some people would rather watch them rot into the ground then see someone have it and enjoy it! What a shame.

I meant to say rotisery but I wasn't sure how to spell it and probaly wrong in the spelling now lol. It has been there in his garage for over 12 years untouched. He said he tore it down to repair the torque boxes and its been there ever since.

Looks like that CJ has been apart before...
From the pics they look like aftermarket pistons, and the retainers look like they're titanium.

The top end was apart for sure. But the bottom end was all ford down to the date stamped ford bearings. Those are 4.6 pistons and rods your seeing for another engine we are assembling. The heads on this thing are a mess! After tearing them apart they were cut for double springs with a damper but the guide was not machined down so they could not fit a smaller valve seal on but because of the dual springs you cannot fit a standard ford umbrella. So there were no valve seals on this engine! We machined the guide boss to .530 to fit a standard seal on there that clears the springs. The exhaust valves were ground to the point that there was no margin left! We ordered new valves to correct this problem. Three of the factory pistons in this engine had broken ringlands (common to these engines)and broken skirts.

Ahhh.....those pistons looked pretty fancy for some late 60's era castings. :)
I rebuilt a 390 for my truck about 11 yrs ago and it had three pistons with broken lands. The thing was pretty low mileage and already .030 over so I was suprisied to see the ringlands so worn down.
