Well, the wife has me doing TONS of household stuff... I am in the market for a new miter saw and was wondering what you guys thought about different brands, there seems to be a huge price difference between the brands, i would like to get a dewalt but i dont wanna pay 600$ for a saw that i am only gonna use here and there, and i dont wanna borrow one as it would be nice to have in the garage at home to do little things when i need it..
They seem like they go on sale at sears a lot. I would get one with the laser, that thing is great for lining stuff up.

Depends on how much and what your cutting. You can probably get away with a barebones saw like a Skil. I opted to get a cheaper model DeWalt. Its a 10" blade, double bevel non-sliding. I think it was around $260. If you torn between to similar models. Choose the one with the higher amps = bigger motor.

hey tim i my dad bought a craftsman about 9 years ago... only changed the blade a few times... and ha i cut everything with it, a lot of exhaust piping, and it does it fairly well and its only a ten inch saw but it gets it. only thing that sucks about it being only a ten inch is when you get like a 2 x 12 you gotta flip it over to finish the cut.. and i dont have a laser on it lol

I have a 12" Sliding Dual Compound Hitatchi Miter with the digital angle readout. I was torn between it and the Dewalt, but found a great deal on the Hitatchi shipped to me for $520. Most places I found sold it for anywhere between $700 - $750. I also ended up dropping $100 on a stand for it. Sears make a very nice one that I picked up. It's heavy, but you don't have to worry about it moving when you are using the saw.
